In a thrilling matchup between North Carolina Central University (NCCU) and Jackson State University (JSU), the NCCU Eagles pulled off a stunning 41-34 overtime victory in the 2022 Celebration Bowl on December 17, 2022.
The Eagles dominated early, building a 21-7 lead in the first half behind a strong performance from quarterback Davius Richard, who threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. But JSU fought back, scoring two touchdowns in the third quarter to tie the game at 21-21 heading into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, both teams traded touchdowns, with JSU taking a 28-27 lead with just under two minutes remaining. But NCCU responded with a clutch drive, culminating in a game-tying field goal with just seconds left on the clock.
In overtime, NCCU got the ball first and scored a touchdown on a short run by running back Latrell Collier. JSU responded with a touchdown of their own, but the Eagles defense made a crucial stop on the ensuing two-point conversion attempt to secure the victory.
