With the score tied at 76, Lyons took an inbound pass from Tre Lynch and launched a three-pointer from the left corner. The ball went through the net as time expired, giving Southern a wild 77-76 win.
"My main thing was to get into attack mode and make a play," said Lyons. "I saw we had time so I wanted to make a quick move in case they tried to trap me. When I saw the defender go under, I let it fly and shot with confidence."
The game was tight early before TSU took control in the final minutes of the first half. Trailing 24-20, Southern allowed TSU to close on an 18-5 run over the final 5:53. TSU led 38-29 at halftime after shooting 63 percent (17 of 27) in the opening 20 minutes. It was déjà vu for Southern (4-7, 1-0 SWAC) after TSU scored the first five points of the second half for a 43-29 lead. But this time would prove different.
